In a recent post on its website, the Clean Energy Council (CEC) has called for governments to recognise the essential nature of renewable energy in future COVID-19 restrictions.

With renewable energy declared an essential service, the solar industry can continue maintaining, installing and connecting rooftop solar systems.

While this protects jobs in the industry, it also enables consumers to move away from coal-fired power as their home consumption increases due to working from home decisions.

Clean energy now accounts for more than 20 per cent of Australia’s electricity. Solar system installation can continue to operate flexibly and safely during the crisis.

Since installers work on roofs, they work at a social distance already so, other than paperwork that requires signing, it is easy for households to manage the distancing requirements.
